Revised Double Hyaluronic Acid Essence Formula for Hydration and Brightening
Question
I have revised my Double Hyaluronic Acid Essence formula to achieve a thicker, more viscous texture similar to Hada Labo, provide intense hydration for very dry skin, and brighten the complexion.
Please review the following formula and confirm if it meets these goals, and provide any suggestions for further adjustment:
- Double Hyaluron Liquid 10%
- Water Lock 2%
- Butylene Glycol 5%
- Glycerin 5%
- Xanthan Gum 0.2%
- Stabilized Vitamin C (Liquid AA2G) 20%
- Disodium EDTA 0.1%
- Phenoxyethanol 1%
- Water (balance)
Answer
Hello!
Thank you for sharing your revised Double Hyaluronic Acid Essence formula. It looks like you've made some great adjustments to achieve the texture, hydration, and brightening effects you're looking for.
Let's review the changes and how they address your goals:
- Texture (Thicker/Viscous): You've added Butylene Glycol (5%), Glycerin (5%), and Xanthan Gum (0.2%). Butylene Glycol and Glycerin are excellent humectants that draw moisture and contribute to a thicker, more viscous feel. Xanthan Gum is a common and effective thickener at 0.2%, which should give you that desired "หนึบๆ" (sticky/viscous) texture similar to Hada Labo.
- Hydration (Very Dry Skin): By adding Butylene Glycol and Glycerin, you've significantly increased the total percentage of humectants in the formula (Double Hyaluron Liquid 10% + Water Lock 2% + Butylene Glycol 5% + Glycerin 5% = 22%). This high level of humectants is excellent for very dry skin and will provide intense hydration.
- Brightening: You've included Stabilized Vitamin C (Liquid AA2G) at 20%. AA2G (Ascorbyl Glucoside) is a stable form of Vitamin C known for its brightening properties. While 20% is a high concentration, it should be effective for targeting skin dullness and promoting a more radiant complexion.
- Stability & Preservation: The addition of Disodium EDTA (0.1%) acts as a chelating agent to improve stability, and Phenoxyethanol (1%) is an appropriate preservative to prevent microbial growth.
Overall, your revised formula appears well-balanced and designed to meet your specific needs for a hydrating, viscous, and brightening essence for very dry skin. The combination of humectants and the addition of Xanthan Gum should provide the texture you prefer, and the high concentration of Vitamin C should help with brightening.
You can try making this formula as is. If you find you need slightly more thickness, you could potentially increase the Xanthan Gum slightly (e.g., to 0.3%), but be careful not to add too much as it can become stringy or slimy. The current hydration level is already very high, but if somehow it's still not enough, you could consider adding Panthenol (Vitamin B5) as suggested in a previous reply, although the current formula is already quite rich.
Hope this helps!
