Safe B3 Concentration for Eye Area and Flushing Effect

Question

Based on the recommendation that Safe B3 should not exceed 2% for the eye area, I made a face cream with Safe B3 5% and used it around my eyes. I experienced slight warmth and redness but no severe negative effects. I would like to know if I can continue using Safe B3 5% around my eyes.

Is the staff's recommendation of not exceeding 2% for the eye area solely to reduce flushing, or are there other potential harms? Does flushing have any negative effects besides temporary discomfort (warmth, redness)?

Answer

Based on the staff's advice regarding the use of Safe B3 around the eyes:

  • You can use a cream with 5% Safe B3 around the eyes, but it is not recommended for this area. The skin around the eyes is more sensitive, and using a higher concentration like 5% significantly increases the likelihood of experiencing flushing.
  • The recommendation to use no more than 2% Safe B3 for the eye area is primarily aimed at reducing the chance of flushing.
  • Flushing caused by Safe B3 at higher concentrations mainly results in temporary discomfort, such as warmth, redness, and potentially tenderness if the reaction is strong. However, it does not cause other dangers or long-term harmful effects. The staff also noted that the skin can adapt over time with continued use, which may lead to a reduction in flushing.
