Question

I forgot my Vitamin E capsules in the car. When I remembered and took them out, they were clumped together. I quickly put them in the refrigerator until they separated. I want to ask if they are still safe to consume? I am currently taking them.

Answer

Subject: Vitamin E left in car

Leaving supplements like Vitamin E in a hot car can expose them to high temperatures, which may affect their quality and potency.

When you noticed the Vitamin E had clumped together, it indicates that the heat significantly altered its physical state. While refrigerating it helped it return to its original form, this doesn't necessarily mean that the active ingredient (Vitamin E) hasn't degraded due to the heat exposure.

High temperatures can potentially reduce the effectiveness of vitamins and other active compounds.

Given that the product was exposed to conditions outside of recommended storage (usually cool, dry place), it's difficult to guarantee its safety or full potency.

For the most accurate advice regarding the safety and efficacy of your specific Vitamin E supplement after this incident, it is best to:

  • Check the product packaging for specific storage instructions or warnings.
  • Contact the manufacturer directly. They can provide information specific to their product's stability.
  • Consult with a healthcare professional or pharmacist.

While you are currently taking it, it is generally recommended to err on the side of caution with supplements that have been stored improperly, especially under extreme conditions like a hot car.
