Question

I want to make an edible serum using `GuarCat` to build texture and including `Vitamin B12`. What kind of preservative should I use?

Answer

Based on the product descriptions for GuarCat™ Standard, GuarCat™ Weight-less, and GuarCat™ Clear, these are Cationic Guar Gum products specifically designed and intended for use in cosmetic formulations, particularly hair care products like shampoos, conditioners, and hair treatments. They function as thickeners and conditioning agents for hair.

Therefore, the GuarCat™ products found in our database are cosmetic grade and are not suitable for use in products intended for consumption.

Formulating edible products is significantly different from formulating cosmetics. All ingredients used must be Food Grade, and any preservatives must be approved for use in food and used within legally specified limits according to food safety regulations. Most preservatives used in cosmetics are not safe for ingestion.

Regarding Vitamin B12, if you intend to use it in an edible product, you must also use Food Grade Vitamin B12.

In summary, using cosmetic-grade GuarCat™ and cosmetic preservatives to create a serum intended for consumption is not feasible and is highly unsafe.

If you are interested in developing an edible serum-like dietary supplement, you must start by selecting all ingredients that are Food Grade. You also need to consider preservation methods that are appropriate and safe for food, which may have limitations and require detailed study of legal regulations or consultation with food science experts.
