Answer
Re: Serum Formulation Advice
Hello,
Regarding the updated serum formula you provided for oily skin:
- Suitability for Oily Skin: The addition of Zinc PCA and Licorice Extract, as recommended by the staff, is beneficial for oily skin as these ingredients can help control excess oil and soothe the skin. Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) is also excellent for oily skin, helping to improve skin barrier function, reduce inflammation, and regulate sebum production. N-Acetyl-D-glucosamine works well with Niacinamide for skin brightening. WhiteCumin has antioxidant and potential brightening properties.
- Texture: The inclusion of Pro Polymer will help create a gel or serum texture, which is more suitable for application than a watery liquid, addressing the staff's second point.
- Potential Irritation: As mentioned by the staff member C7, WhiteCumin and Phenonip® P4 might cause irritation, especially for sensitive skin. However, you mentioned you have oily skin, not necessarily sensitive skin. The likelihood of irritation depends on your individual skin's tolerance. If you have used products with ingredients like Phenonip before without issues (as suggested by the staff regarding Nivea/Johnson's), you might tolerate this formula. It's always recommended to do a patch test first.
- Formula Percentage: Please note that the percentages in your updated formula add up to 103.5% (4+4+3+0.5+1+1+0.5+88.5). The water percentage should be adjusted so the total is 100%. Based on the percentages of the other ingredients (16%), the water should be 84%.
Overall, this updated formula seems well-suited for oily skin, incorporating ingredients for oil control and texture improvement. Be mindful of the potential for irritation from WhiteCumin and Phenonip® P4 if you have sensitive skin or experience any reaction.
