Serum Formulation: Allantoin Solubility and Skin Suitability

Question

I have developed a serum formulation including Allantoin at 0.5% and Rose Water (item 1).

Can all the ingredients in my formula list be mixed together? I am particularly concerned about the solubility of Allantoin at 0.5% in the water phase.

Is this formulation suitable for my skin type and goals?

Answer

Regarding your serum formulation, based on the staff's feedback:

  1. Allantoin Solubility: The staff noted a potential issue with Allantoin (item 12). Allantoin has a limited solubility of no more than 0.5% in the water phase of a formulation. Your formula includes 0.5% Allantoin. You need to calculate the total amount of the water phase (primarily Rose Water in your list) and ensure that the 0.5% Allantoin you are adding does not exceed 0.5% of that water phase amount. If the water phase is less than 100% of your total formula, your proposed 0.5% Allantoin of the total formula will likely be too high for it to fully dissolve.
  2. Mixability of Other Ingredients: The staff confirmed that, apart from the Allantoin solubility consideration, the other ingredients in your list can be mixed together.
  3. Suitability for Your Skin: The staff also mentioned that they cannot determine if this specific formulation is suitable for your skin without knowing your skin type and what you hope to achieve with this serum.
