Question
I am developing a serum formulation targeting anti-aging (reducing nasolabial folds and sagging cheeks) and skin brightening for combination and dehydrated skin. I plan to include the following ingredients:
- SNAP-8
- Pepha®-Tight
- Leuphasyl®
- Vitamin B3
- Tego® Pep 4-17
- Apple Stem Cell Extract (PhytoCellTec™)
- Alpha-Arbutin
Please advise on:
- Is this combination of ingredients suitable for my concerns and skin type?
- Will adding Hyaluronic Acid Nano be beneficial for my dehydrated skin?
- What will the resulting texture of the serum be?
- Will I need to use an additional moisturizer after applying this serum?
- What are the best storage conditions for this serum to maintain the quality and effectiveness of the ingredients, especially the peptides and extracts? Is refrigeration necessary, and what role do preservatives play in storage?
Answer
Based on the conversation, the staff recommended the following ingredients for your concerns:
For nasolabial folds and sagging cheeks:
- SNAP-8
- Pepha®-Tight
- Leuphasyl®
- Vitamin B3
- More potent options mentioned were Tego® Pep 4-17 and Apple Stem Cell Extract (PhytoCellTec™), which you included in your proposed mix.
For brightening:
- Alpha-Arbutin was recommended as sufficient.
For your combination and dehydrated skin:
- Adding Hyaluronic Acid Nano was advised.
Texture:
- The resulting mixture will have a gel texture.
Additional Moisturizer:
- Generally, you won't need an additional moisturizer, especially with the added Hyaluronic Acid Nano, unless your skin is very dry.
Storage:
- Refrigeration is highly recommended to maintain the quality of the ingredients (especially peptides and extracts) as heat degrades them, regardless of preservatives.
- Preservatives help prevent microbial growth.
- If daily refrigeration isn't possible, use preservatives and store the product in a cool place away from heat and light, like a closet.
