Shaving Products: Types and After Shave Gel Formula

Question

I am interested in learning about shaving products. Could you please explain the different types, such as those used during shaving (shaving cream, foam, gel) and those used after shaving (after shave)? I would also like a simple formula for an After Shave Gel that includes ingredients for soothing, skin recovery, irritation reduction, and fragrance.

Answer

Simple After Shave Gel with Fragrance

This formula provides a soothing and skin-recovering gel to be used after shaving, with added fragrance.

Ingredients:

  • Water: Up to 100%
  • Pro Polymer™ (Gel Maker): 1%
  • D-Panthenol Care (Pro-Vitamin B5): 1-5% (for soothing and hydration)
  • Bisabolol: 0.1-1% (for anti-irritant properties)
  • SkinLipid™: 1-3% (to help skin recovery)
  • Flora Solve™ Clear (Fragrance Solubilizer): 1-5% (adjust based on fragrance load)
  • Fragrance: 0.1-1% (or as desired, ensure compatibility)
  • Mild Preserved Eco™: 1% (preservative)

Instructions:

  1. In a suitable container, disperse Pro Polymer™ in water and stir until a gel forms.
  2. In a separate small container, mix the Fragrance with Flora Solve™ Clear until completely clear and dissolved. This is crucial for the fragrance to disperse properly in the water-based gel.
  3. Add D-Panthenol Care, Bisabolol, and SkinLipid™ to the water/gel phase and mix well.
  4. Slowly add the solubilized Fragrance mixture from step 2 to the main gel phase, stirring gently until fully incorporated.
  5. Add Mild Preserved Eco™ and mix thoroughly.
  6. Check the pH and adjust if necessary (typically after shave products are slightly acidic, around pH 4.5-6).
  7. Package the finished product.
