Question
I am seeking information on a specific type of silica that can effectively encapsulate water and subsequently release it upon application.
Could you please advise on:
- Which type of silica is suitable for this purpose?
- How this silica functions to encapsulate and release water?
- Its application in formulations, particularly for 'powder-to-cream' products where the powder transforms into a creamy texture when spread on the skin?
Answer
For silica that can encapsulate water and release it, we recommend Water Encapsulation Powder. This special silica powder is processed to have a large surface area, allowing it to hold water up to 18-20 times its own weight.
It is commonly used in "powder-to-cream" formulations. When spread on the skin, the product in powder form transforms into a creamy texture as the encapsulated water is released from the silica.
Mixing Method:
- Mix into water using a high-speed blender (for small volumes) or a homogenizer (for large volumes).
- It is crucial to control the blending time:
- Too little blending: Water may not fully enter the Water Encapsulation Powder.
- Too much blending: The Water Encapsulation Powder can lose its ability to encapsulate water.
- We recommend blending gradually and observing the changes, stopping once all the water has been absorbed into the powder.
Usage Rate: 5-8%
