Simple, Low-Cost, Cold-Process Lotion Formula

This is a basic formula focusing on inexpensive ingredients and easy cold-process manufacturing, suitable for beginners looking to reduce costs.

Ingredients:

• Water: 76%
• Light Lotion Maker: 3% (Cold Process Emulsifier)
• Mineral Oil Light: 15% (Inexpensive Emollient Oil)
• Glycerin (USP/Food Grade): 5% (Humectant)
• Phenoxyethanol (Extra Pure): 1% (Preservative)

Instructions (Cold Process):

1. In container 1, combine Water, Glycerin, and Phenoxyethanol (Water Phase). Mix well.
2. In container 2, combine Mineral Oil Light and Light Lotion Maker (Oil Phase). Mix well.
3. While continuously mixing the Water Phase with a blender (e.g., hand blender), slowly pour the Oil Phase into the Water Phase.
4. Continue mixing until a smooth, uniform lotion is formed.

Additional Tips:

• This is a basic formula. You can slightly adjust the percentage of Mineral Oil to change the thickness/lightness of the lotion texture.
• You can add other water-soluble extracts or active ingredients to the Water Phase, or oil-soluble extracts to the Oil Phase (research the usage rate and limitations of each ingredient).
• Stability testing and preservative challenge testing should be performed if you plan to manufacture for sale.
