Question

Hello, I have chronic and severe acne and dry skin. I can use regular creams, but my old acne doesn't go away, and sometimes new acne appears. Could the team recommend something?

I have planned a formula with the following ingredients:

1. Retinol A
2. สารสกัดจากว่านหางจระเข้
3. สารสกัดใบบัวบก
4. copper
5. Hyaluronic Acid

Using the percentages recommended on the website for each ingredient. Does the team have any other ingredients you would recommend adding? Thank you very much.

My skin type is dry with both inflammatory and chronic acne. I can use regular creams normally, but the old acne doesn't disappear, and sometimes new acne appears. Please advise.

Answer

Skincare Formula for Chronic Acne on Dry Skin

It's understandable that dealing with chronic acne on dry skin can be challenging. Your initial formula includes several excellent ingredients that target both concerns.

Your proposed ingredients:

  • Encapsulated Retinal: A powerful Vitamin A derivative effective for acne treatment and skin renewal. The encapsulated form (like Retinal-EZ™) is often less irritating, which is good for dry skin.
  • Aloe Vera Extract: Known for its soothing, anti-inflammatory, and moisturizing benefits.
  • Centella Asiatica Extract (Madecassoside): Helps reduce inflammation, aids in wound healing, and supports collagen production, beneficial for acne scars.
  • Copper Peptide: Supports skin regeneration, reduces inflammation, and can improve the appearance of scars.
  • Hyaluronic Acid: Provides essential hydration, plumping the skin and reducing dryness.

These ingredients form a strong base, with Retinal addressing the acne cause and the others supporting healing, reducing inflammation, and providing hydration. Using them at the recommended percentages is a good starting point. For dry skin, especially when using Retinal, start with a lower frequency and gradually increase as your skin tolerates it.

To further enhance your formula for dry, acne-prone skin, consider adding:

  • Niacinamide (Vitamin B3): Ingredients like Safe-B3™ are excellent for reducing inflammation, strengthening the skin barrier, and helping with redness and overall skin health.
  • Azelaic Acid: Liquid Azelaic™ is effective against acne, reduces inflammation, and helps fade post-acne marks. It's often well-tolerated.
  • Ceramides: Products such as Ceracare™ Liposome-3 or Ceramide 3 are vital for repairing and strengthening the skin's natural barrier. This is crucial for dry skin and helps prevent irritation from acne treatments, locking in moisture.

Recommendations:

  1. Build your base formula with Encapsulated Retinal (Retinal-EZ™), Aloe Vera Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract (Madecassoside 90%), Copper Peptide (GHK-Cu, Copper Tripeptide-1) (1000ppm Solution), and Double Hyaluron Liquid.
  2. Incorporate Niacinamide (Safe-B3™) to support barrier function and reduce inflammation.
  3. Add a Ceramide product (like Ceracare™ Liposome-3) to significantly improve hydration and barrier strength, essential for dry skin.
  4. Consider Liquid Azelaic™ if you need additional acne treatment or help with marks.

Always patch test new formulations. For dry skin, prioritize gentle cleansing, consistent moisturizing with barrier-supporting ingredients, and daily sun protection, especially when using Retinal.
