Skincare Formula for Very Dry Skin, Wrinkles, and Brightening (Serum Base)
Question
I have formulated a skincare product using the following ingredients:
- Double Hya Base 75%
- Water lock 2%
- Moist 72 3%
- Nanowhite 5%
- B5 3%
- n-acetyl glucosamine 4%
- Matrixyl 3000 8%
The total active ingredients are 25%.
I previously considered using Apple Stem Cell but decided to replace it with Matrixyl 3000 at 8% because it stimulates collagen synthesis, which would benefit both my very dry skin (for hydration) and my mother's skin (for wrinkles). I also understand that oil-soluble ingredients like Vitamin C Ester and Vitamin E are not suitable for this gel base formula.
Please confirm if this revised formula is appropriate and provide guidance on:
- The correct mixing method for these ingredients.
- The specific skin benefits provided by each ingredient in this formula (Double Hya Base, Water lock, Moist 72, Nanowhite, B5, n-acetyl glucosamine, Matrixyl 3000).
- Whether this single formula is suitable for both my very dry skin (focusing on dryness, flakiness, wrinkles, and brightening) and my mother's normal skin (focusing on wrinkles and brightening), considering the texture.
Answer
Summary and Recommendations for Very Dry Skin, Anti-Wrinkle, and Brightening Formula
Hello!
It's great that you have an interesting formula to try! Based on your adjusted formula and additional questions, here is a summary and further guidance:
Revised Formula
The latest formula you've adjusted is:
- Double Hya Base 75%
- Water lock 2%
- Moist 72 3%
- Nanowhite 5%
- B5 3%
- n-acetyl glucosamine 4%
- Matrixyl 3000 8%
The total active ingredients are 25%, which is an appropriate amount and not too high.
Mixing Method
Most ingredients in this formula are water-soluble and easy to mix.
- Weigh all the active ingredients (Water lock, Moist 72, Nanowhite, B5, n-acetyl glucosamine, Matrixyl 3000) according to the desired percentages.
- Pour the weighed active ingredients into the Double Hya Base.
- Stir all ingredients together until uniformly mixed. The product is then ready to use.
Regarding the Vitamin C Ester and Vitamin E you previously asked about, the recommendation to remove them was correct. These ingredients are oil-soluble and require an emulsion formula (cream or lotion texture), which is more complex than this gel base formula.
Ingredients in the Formula and Skin Benefits
This formula contains key ingredients that effectively address dry skin, wrinkles, and brightening concerns.
- Double Hya Base: The main base providing hydration from two molecular sizes of Hyaluron, helping to replenish water in both upper and lower skin layers, reducing dryness, dehydration, and flakiness.
- Water lock: Helps create a thin film on the skin, reducing water loss (TEWL) and keeping the skin moisturized for longer. Suitable for very dry skin.
- Moist 72: A moisturizing ingredient mimicking the skin's Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF), providing high and long-lasting hydration, helping the skin feel smooth and soft.
- Nanowhite: (Referring to the name you used) Expected to be a group of ingredients that help with brightening, reducing dark spots, and making the skin look clearer.
- B5 (Panthenol): Helps soothe the skin, reduce inflammation, redness, strengthen the skin barrier, and provides moisture, reducing dryness and itching. It also aids in wound healing.
- n-acetyl glucosamine: Works synergistically with Niacinamide (if present in the base or added) to reduce dark spots and even out skin tone. It also stimulates the skin's production of Hyaluronic Acid, making the skin more hydrated and plump.
- Matrixyl 3000: A peptide that stimulates the synthesis of collagen and other important skin components, helping to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, increase elasticity, and firmness.
Using the Formula Together
This formula can be used by both you and your mother.
- For you, with very dry skin, this formula will effectively provide hydration and reduce flakiness, while also addressing wrinkles and brightening.
- For your mother, with normal skin focusing on wrinkles and brightening, this formula is also suitable. Matrixyl 3000 will help reduce wrinkles, and Nanowhite and n-acetyl glucosamine will help brighten the skin. However, as previously advised, the texture might feel slightly heavier for normal skin.
Choosing Matrixyl 3000 at 8% as recommended by the Staff is an excellent choice. It provides good results for wrinkles and also helps enhance hydration for your dry skin, making it unnecessary to create multiple formulas.
I hope this information is helpful! Enjoy making your own skincare.
