Question

Regarding Na-Ecamsule (equivalent to Mexoryl SX), I have two questions:

  • When dissolving Na-Ecamsule in water, should the resulting solution be clear?
  • Is there a specific pH at which Na-Ecamsule needs to be dissolved for optimal results in cosmetic formulations?

Answer

Na-Ecamsule (eq. Mexoryl SX) is a water-soluble sunscreen agent. When dissolved in water with the aid of heat (approximately 60 degrees Celsius), it should form a clear solution.

Regarding pH, Na-Ecamsule itself has a pH of about 9-11. For use in cosmetic formulations, mild acids can be added to adjust the pH to a skin-friendly range of 5-7.
