Solubility of Oat Avenanthramides in Water
Question
I purchased Oat Avenanthramides (Hydroxyphenyl Propamidobenzoic Acid) which is listed as water-soluble, but it did not dissolve in my formula and appears cloudy. How can I improve its solubility or dispersion?
Answer
Regarding the Solubility of Oat Avenanthramides
Thank you for your question regarding the solubility of Oat Avenanthramides (Hydroxyphenyl Propamidobenzoic Acid).
Based on the product information, Oat Avenanthramides (Hydroxyphenyl Propamidobenzoic Acid) is described as being able to disperse in water, which means it will become cloudy but should not precipitate out. It does not fully dissolve into a clear solution like some other water-soluble ingredients.
If you require a clear solution, the product description also indicates that it can dissolve in glycols such as Propylene Glycol or Butylene Glycol. You might consider using one of these solvents instead of or in combination with water in your formulation.
For future formulations where high water solubility is essential, you might consider the product ActiveRelease Oat™ (Hydroxyphenyl Propamidobenzoic Acid, Encapsulated). This version is encapsulated to improve its solubility in water, although it is still described as dispersing rather than dissolving completely clear.
We hope this helps clarify the expected behavior of the product in water and provides alternative solutions for your formulation.
