Stability issues (color change, liquefaction) in serum formulation
Question
My serum formulation is experiencing stability issues. After about 10 days, the product changes color from cloudy white to pinkish, then becomes blackish, and also turns very liquid. This occurs despite adjusting the formula and mixing method. The current formula is:
- Water (ส่วนที่เหลือ)
- Double Hyaluron Liquid 2%
- Repair Activator 10%
- Pro Polymer 0.5%
- Lift Now 5%
- Global Guard 1%
What could be causing these color change and liquefaction issues over time?
Answer
Hello,
Thank you for the update on your formula. We understand you are experiencing issues with the product changing color (from cloudy white to pinkish, then blackish) and becoming very liquid after about 10 days, despite adjusting the formula and mixing method.
The staff is actively investigating this specific issue in the lab based on the formula you provided (Water, Double Hyaluron Liquid 2%, Repair Activator 10%, Pro Polymer 0.5%, Lift Now 5%, Global Guard 1%).
As of the last update (June 10th), the lab sample showed no color change after 3 days under their test conditions (sealed beaker, exposed to light). However, they are continuing the test until June 12th to observe the full 10-day period.
The color change, especially turning dark/black, and the liquefaction over time strongly suggest a stability problem, potentially due to microbial contamination or chemical degradation/oxidation of one or more ingredients. Storage conditions (like being kept in a sealed bag at room temperature) can contribute to these issues.
Regarding the consistency, the staff previously suggested increasing the Pro Polymer concentration (to 0.7-0.9%) if the formula is initially too liquid, especially when using Global Guard which can reduce viscosity. However, the liquefaction happening over time is a different issue related to long-term stability, which the lab test is currently investigating.
You also asked about the smell of Pro Polymer. While this is a valid concern, the staff is currently focused on diagnosing and resolving the critical stability issue (color change and liquefaction).
Please wait for the staff's final lab results, which should provide a clearer understanding of the cause and potential solutions for the color change and liquefaction.
Thank you for your patience.
