Question

Can natural extracts be added to MP soap for skin benefits? What about other additives like colors and fragrances?

Answer

Hello, regarding adding various substances to MP soap:

As previously informed, MP soap has a relatively high alkalinity, which causes most natural extracts to be unstable and degrade quickly, meaning you don't truly benefit from those extracts.

Therefore, adding herbal extracts or other natural extracts for skin benefits in MP soap usually does not yield the expected results.

However, there are other substances that can be added to MP soap for other purposes, such as adding color or fragrance.

  • Soap Colorants: To give the soap beautiful colors, you should choose colors specifically designed for soap to withstand alkaline conditions. Examples of colors that can be used include water-soluble EasyWash™ colors or Pigment colors that disperse in the soap base. Some natural colors can also be used, such as Cuttlefish Ink Black Powder.
  • Soap Fragrances: To give the soap a pleasant scent, you should choose grades specifically for soap.

When selecting additives, especially colors and fragrances, ensure they are suitable grades and stable in a soap base with a high pH.
