Storage and Handling Guidelines for Sterile Sheep Blood

For the storage and handling of sheep blood products such as Sterile Defibrinated Sheep Blood and Sterile Anticoagulated Sheep Blood, please follow these guidelines to ensure product stability and performance:

1. Storage Temperature

• Optimal Temperature: Store in a refrigerator at 2–8°C at all times.
• Freezing: Do not freeze if your application requires intact red blood cells. Freezing causes the cells to rupture (lysis). Only freeze if your specific protocol specifically requires or tolerates lysed blood.

2. Handling and Usage

• Mixing: Before use, gently mix the blood to re-suspend the cells that may have settled. Avoid vigorous shaking or agitation, as this can cause foaming and damage the cells.
• Aseptic Technique: Always use strict aseptic techniques when opening the container or preparing culture media (such as blood agar) to prevent contamination.
• Room Temperature Exposure: Minimize the time the product spends outside of the refrigerator. Return it to cold storage immediately after use.
