Storing and Using Homemade BHA (Salicylic Acid) Mixture

Question

I have mixed Salicylic Acid, Propylene Glycol, and Betaine. I have a few questions about this mixture:

  • Does BHA need to be stored in a dark glass bottle? Can it be stored in a regular clear glass bottle?
  • When using it, should I apply it with a cotton pad or pour it directly onto my face?
  • Will the mixture be very liquid or gel-like after mixing?

Regarding your questions about storing and using the BHA (Salicylic Acid) mixture:

  • Bottle Type and Storage: Light can degrade most substances. While commercial products often use dark or UV-protective clear bottles for display purposes, if you store your mixture in a place away from light (like a drawer or cabinet), a regular clear glass bottle is generally fine. If you plan to leave it out where it will be exposed to light constantly, using an opaque container would be better.
  • Application: You can apply the mixture using a cotton pad or by directly applying it to your face. Use whichever method is most convenient for you.
  • Consistency: Without adding a gelling agent (like hyaluronic standard molecule or xanthan gum), the mixture of Salicylic Acid, Propylene Glycol, and Betaine will be liquid.
  • Bottle with Dropper: Since the mixture will be liquid, a bottle with a dropper might be convenient for measuring and applying the product.
