Question

I have a Cleansing Water formula that uses PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides (MakeUp-Wash) and PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate (Coco Wash).

Since MakeUp-Wash is currently out of stock, what can I use as a substitute ingredient in my formula?

Answer

Substitute for PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides (MakeUp-Wash)

In your cleansing water formula that uses both PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides (MakeUp-Wash) and PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate (Coco Wash), if MakeUp-Wash is out of stock, you can consider using PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate (Coco Wash) by itself as a temporary substitute.

  • PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate (Coco Wash) is a gentle, non-ionic surfactant derived from coconut oil. It is suitable for makeup remover formulations and provides a soft, smooth feel to the skin. While it may not have the same cleaning efficiency as a primary detergent, it works well in cleansing water formulas.
  • Based on user experience shared in the thread, using Coco Wash alone might result in a slightly more oily or slippery feel compared to using MakeUp-Wash alone or the combination.
  • Another suggestion from the thread is to add Cocamidopropyl Betaine (Coco Betaine), particularly if you have oily skin. Cocamidopropyl Betaine is a gentle amphoteric co-surfactant that helps to create a smooth, fine foam and can improve the cleansing properties.

Using PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate (Coco Wash) alone is the most direct alternative mentioned in the context of your formula while waiting for MakeUp-Wash to be restocked.
