Answer
SugarThick and Citric Acid in Formulations
Using SugarThick™ (PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate) in a formulation does not require the use of Citric Acid for its thickening function.
- SugarThick™ is a thickener specifically designed for detergent-based systems (like liquid soaps, shampoos, and cleansers). It works by interacting with the surfactants in the formula to increase viscosity.
- Citric Acid is primarily used in cosmetic formulations to adjust the pH level. While pH can affect the stability and performance of a formula, Citric Acid is not necessary for SugarThick™ to perform its thickening action.
You might use Citric Acid in a formula containing SugarThick™ to achieve a desired final pH for skin compatibility or product stability, but it is not required for the thickening itself.
