Question
What colorants are suitable for a matte cream lipstick formulation, considering different mixing equipment? Can natural colors, such as those from fruit extracts, be used in this type of oil-based formulation?
Answer
Colors for Matte Cream Lipstick
Based on the previous discussion, the suitable colorants for a matte cream lipstick formulation depend on the equipment available:
- If you have a high-speed blender or Homogenizer (Product ID 199), you can use EasyMix™ Color (Product ID 81) or Pigment Color such as Iron Oxides, Mica, and Lake colors (Product ID 47).
- If you have a regular blender, you should use ReadyMix™ Liquid Color (Product ID 143).
Regarding using colors from fruit extracts, if these are water-soluble like the "natural colors" (Product ID 430) mentioned, they are generally not suitable for lipstick. This is because lipstick bases are oil-based, and water-soluble colors will not properly disperse or dissolve in oil. You need colorants that are dispersible or soluble in oil for lipstick formulations.
