- Base INCI:
Ethyl Alcohol90%,Dipropylene Glycol5%,Propylene Glycol5%
- Base INCI:
Please advise on the following:
- Is this ratio suitable for making an EDT spray perfume?
- Does it require additional distilled water,
DPG, or any other ingredients?
Answer
The ratio of 20 grams of concentrated fragrance oil to 80 grams of 8 Hours Fragrance Spray Base (Musk-Free) is highly suitable for creating a high-quality spray perfume.
1. Suitability of the Ratio
- Concentration: A 20% fragrance concentration is technically classified as an Eau de Parfum (EDP), which is stronger and longer-lasting than a standard Eau de Toilette (EDT, typically 5-15%). This ratio will provide a very potent and premium scent profile.
- Base Compatibility: The 8 Hours Fragrance Spray Base (Musk-Free) is specifically designed to be used at a rate of 60-90%. Your 80% usage falls perfectly within this recommended range.
2. Additional Ingredients
- Distilled Water: Not recommended. Adding water to an alcohol-based perfume often causes the mixture to become cloudy or "milky" because the fragrance oils may not remain fully dissolved. The 8 Hours base is already formulated to provide the right balance without needing water.
- Extra DPG (Dipropylene Glycol): Not necessary. The base already contains 5% DPG and 5% Propylene Glycol, which act as fixatives to slow down evaporation and help the scent stick to the skin. Adding more might make the spray feel too oily on the skin or clothes.
- Other Ingredients: Since you are using the "Musk-Free" version of the base, it will not interfere with the original scent profile of oils like Agarwood Fragrance Oil or Allure (compare to Chanel). No additional fixatives or stabilizers are required.
3. Mixing Instructions
- Mix the 20g of fragrance oil with the 80g of perfume base.
- Stir or shake well until the mixture is clear.
- Pro-tip: For the best results, allow the perfume to "age" or macerate in a cool, dark place for 1-2 weeks. This allows the alcohol and oil molecules to blend thoroughly, resulting in a smoother, more well-rounded scent.
