Question

I am formulating a sunscreen cream and previously had issues with a formula not thickening properly when using Light Cream Maker with high silicone content. I have developed a new formula using Milk Lotion Maker™ and would like to ask the following questions:

Here is the formula:

  1. DI Water: 74.400%
  2. Disodium EDTA: 0.10%
  3. NaturePreserve™ (Gluconolactone): 1.00%
  4. Cyclomethicone/Cyclopentasiloxane (Low-Odor): 15.00%
  5. Mineral Oil (Paraffinum Liquidum) ชนิดเบา: 5.00%
  6. Milk Lotion Maker™: 4.00%
  7. Sym-White™ (Phenylethyl Resorcinol): 0.50%
  8. Beige Iron Oxides EasyMix™: 1.00%

My questions are:

  • Can these ingredients be mixed together?
  • Will this formula achieve SPF50/PA+++?
  • Will using Milk Lotion Maker have the same issue as the previous formula (not thickening enough)?
  • I want a relatively thick cream texture. How can I achieve this with this formula?

Answer

Hello,

Regarding the sunscreen formula you asked about:

  1. Can these ingredients be mixed together?
Yes, the ingredients in this formula can be mixed together.

  2. Does this formula achieve SPF50/PA+++?
Based on the sunscreen agents used, Titanium Dioxide 15nm Liquid 20% and Zinc Oxide 200nm EasyDisperse™ 5%, there is a high probability of achieving SPF50/PA+++. However, the exact value cannot be confirmed without laboratory testing.

  3. Will using Milk Lotion Maker™ have the same issue as the formula above? I want a relatively thick cream texture.
Using Milk Lotion Maker™ will result in a relatively liquid texture, similar to a lotion or milk. This is characteristic of this type of emulsifier. Therefore, if you desire a thicker cream texture, you will need to modify the formula by adding a thickener or another type of emulsifier that provides good viscosity. As the staff previously advised, adding approximately 1.0% of Light Cream Maker can significantly help in thickening the texture.

In summary, the formula you proposed is compatible, and the sunscreen protection level is likely high as desired. However, to achieve a thicker cream texture, you will need to incorporate a thickener or a different thickening emulsifier.

Thank you.
