Question

I would like to modify a sunscreen formula obtained from the website myskinrecipes. The original formula example provided uses:

  • SPF Protect Ultra™ II 15%
  • Milk Lotion Maker™ 3%
  • Satin Cream Maker™ 0.7%
  • Water 80.3%
  • Mild Preserved Eco™ 1%

I need assistance adjusting this formula to be waterproof and achieve PA+++. The desired properties for the final product are:

  • Light texture
  • Non-whitening (no white cast)
  • Easy to spread
  • Non-greasy
  • Non-sticky

Could you please provide the required percentage of each ingredient and the detailed steps for making this modified formula?

Answer

Waterproof Sunscreen Formula with PA+++

Here is a modified sunscreen formula based on your request, designed to be waterproof, achieve PA+++, and have a light, non-greasy texture.

Formula:

  • SPF Protect Ultra™ II: 30%
  • Milk Lotion Maker™: 3%
  • Satin Cream Maker™: 0.7%
  • UV35: 5%
  • Mild Preserved Eco™: 1%
  • Water: 60.3%

Instructions:

  1. Oil Phase: Combine SPF Protect Ultra™ II and Milk Lotion Maker™. Heat this mixture to 70°C and mix until homogeneous.
  2. Water Phase: In a separate container, combine Water, Mild Preserved Eco™, and UV35. Heat the water to 60-70°C. Mix the water phase ingredients until dispersed/dissolved.
  3. Emulsification: While continuously mixing the Oil Phase, gradually add the heated Water Phase. Continue mixing until a uniform emulsion is formed.
  4. Thickening: Add Satin Cream Maker™ to the emulsion. Mix thoroughly for at least 15 minutes to ensure it is fully dissolved and the desired texture is achieved. Avoid high-speed mixing (above 2500 rpm).
  5. Cooling and Final Check: Allow the mixture to cool. Ensure the formula is homogeneous before packaging.

This formula uses a higher concentration of SPF Protect Ultra™ II to enhance UVA protection and includes UV35 for water resistance and an additional SPF boost. The combination of emulsifiers helps create a light, easy-to-spread texture.
