Thinning Aloe Vera Gel Base for Serum Texture

Adding plain water to the Aloe Vera Gel (Lite) base to make it thinner is generally not recommended.

Here's why:

• Stability: Pre-made bases like Aloe Vera Gel (Lite) are formulated with specific ratios of ingredients, including gelling agents and preservatives, to ensure the product remains stable over time. Adding extra water can disrupt this balance, potentially causing the gel structure to break down or the ingredients to separate.
• Preservation: The base contains a preservative system (Phenoxyethanol at 0.40%) at a concentration designed to protect the product from microbial growth (bacteria, mold) at its original composition. Diluting the base by adding more water will also dilute the preservative, potentially making the product unsafe and prone to contamination.
• Intended Consistency: The Aloe Vera Gel (Lite) is already designed to be a very light "water-gel" with a high percentage of purified water (92.60%). It's intended to absorb quickly without stickiness, which is often the goal of a serum-like feel.

If you need a significantly thinner, serum-like consistency, it would be better to use a base specifically formulated as a serum or to create a serum from scratch using appropriate ingredients and a suitable preservative system. While the Aloe Vera Gel (Lite) is excellent for mixing with active ingredients, adding large amounts of plain water is not advisable for maintaining product integrity and safety.
