Question

Hello.

I am making an anhydrous face paint formula using EasyMix color powders.

I would like to ask about the Titanium dioxide that will be added to the formula:

  • Which type is suitable for anhydrous formulas?
  • What percentage should be added for clear color payoff?

Also, please provide the percentage for the EasyMix color powders that should be added.

Answer

Titanium Dioxide and EasyMix Colors for Anhydrous Face Paint

For an anhydrous face paint formulation using EasyMix color powders, you need Titanium Dioxide and EasyMix colors that are treated to disperse well in oil or silicone bases.

Suitable Titanium Dioxide

Look for Titanium Dioxide products that are surface-treated for oil or silicone dispersion. Based on the product descriptions, suitable options include:

  • Titanium Dioxide 300nm WaterProof™ (Triethoxycaprylylsilane Treated)
  • Titanium Dioxide 250nm WaterProof™ (Dimethicone Treated)
  • Titanium Dioxide 30nm SilkTouch™ (Polymethylsilsesquioxane Treated)

These treated versions are designed to mix easily into anhydrous systems and provide good adherence and coverage.

Usage Percentage

  • Titanium Dioxide: For good color payoff and coverage in a face paint, a usage rate of 1-25% is generally recommended for the WaterProof™ types. The SilkTouch™ type suggests 5-25%.
  • EasyMix Colors: The EasyMix color powders like White Oxides EasyMix™, Red Iron Oxides EasyMix™, and Black Iron Oxides EasyMix™ are suitable for anhydrous formulas as they are dispersible in oil and silicone. The recommended usage rate for EasyMix colors is typically 1-20%, depending on the desired intensity of the color.

Adjust the percentages within these ranges based on the specific color intensity and opacity you want to achieve in your face paint formulation.
