Question
I would like to formulate a toner that helps control oiliness and exfoliates the skin. Could you suggest a formula?
I plan to use Witch Hazel as the base and already have Disodium EDTA, Butylene Glycol, and a preservative that I would like to incorporate.
Answer
Based on your goal for a toner to reduce oiliness and exfoliate, and the staff's recommendations, here is a possible formulation:
- Witch Hazel (ID 162): Fill to 100% (approx. 81.55%) - Used as the base.
- Vitamin B6 (ID 643): 3% - For oil control.
- Zinc PCA (ID 252): 1% - For oil control.
- Safe-B3 (Vitamin B3 Niacinamide) (ID 74): 5% - For oil control.
- Papaya Enzyme (Papain) (ID 1036): 1% - For exfoliation.
- Disodium EDTA (ID 184): 0.2% - From your original formula.
- Butylene Glycol (ID 320): 5% (adjust within 1-10%) - From your original formula.
Preservative (e.g., category ID 34): 1.25% - From your original formula.
Note: The staff recommended using 2-3 oil control ingredients together. You can adjust the combination and percentages of Vitamin B6, Zinc PCA, and Safe-B3 based on your preference, ensuring the total percentage of all ingredients adds up to 100% with Witch Hazel as the base.*
