Usage of ActiveProtec OX with Encapsulated Hydroxyphenyl Propamidobenzoic Acid

Could you please advise on whether I would still need to add ActiveProtec OX to protect the formulation from oxidation if I use the encapsulated version of Hydroxyphenyl Propamidobenzoic Acid?
If yes, what would be the recommended level of ActiveProtec OX when the encapsulated Hydroxyphenyl Propamidobenzoic Acid is used at around 2%?

Even though ActiveRelease Oat™ (Hydroxyphenyl Propamidobenzoic Acid, Encapsulated) is encapsulated in Cyclodextrin to improve stability and solubility, it is still highly recommended to include an antioxidant/stabilizer like ActiveProtec™ OX in your formulation.
Why it is recommended:
Hydroxyphenyl Propamidobenzoic Acid is a phenolic compound (synthetic avenanthramide). Phenolic structures are naturally sensitive to oxidation, which can lead to discoloration (yellowing or browning) and a decrease in efficacy over time when exposed to light, air, or heat. While encapsulation provides a protective barrier, it does not completely eliminate the risk of oxidation within the entire product matrix during its shelf life.
Recommended Usage Levels:
When using ActiveRelease Oat™ at a concentration of 2%, the recommended level for ActiveProtec™ OX is:
- 0.1% - 0.2%: This range is generally sufficient to protect the active ingredient from oxidation and prevent discoloration in most standard formulations.
Important Considerations:
- pH Level: The formulation must maintain a pH higher than 4.0. ActiveProtec™ OX is not stable in highly acidic environments (pH < 4).
- Electrolytes: ActiveProtec™ OX contains electrolytes. If your formula uses thickeners that are sensitive to salt (such as certain carbomers), you may need to adjust the thickener type or concentration.
- Odor Management: ActiveProtec™ OX has a slight characteristic odor. If this affects your final product, you can use Odor-Kill™ at a 1:1 ratio with the stabilizer (e.g., 0.1% Odor-Kill™ for 0.1% ActiveProtec™ OX) to neutralize the scent.
- Mixing: ActiveProtec™ OX is water-soluble and can be mixed directly into the water phase.
Using this combination will ensure that your product remains stable, effective, and maintains its intended color throughout its shelf life.
