Usage of Vitamin E in Oil Soap™ WW-CF Formulations
Question
I am planning to use Oil Soap™ WW-CF (MIPA-Laureth sulfate, High Foaming Oil-Based Liquid Soap) in my formulation and have the following questions:
- Is it mandatory to add Vitamin E to the formula, or can it be omitted?
- Is there a version of
Oil Soap™ WW-CFavailable that already contains Vitamin E in the mixture?
Answer
Regarding your questions about Oil Soap™ WW-CF (MIPA-Laureth sulfate, High Foaming Oil-Based Liquid Soap):
1. Can I skip adding Vitamin E?
Yes, you can choose not to add Vitamin E. It is not a mandatory requirement for the surfactant base to function. However, its addition depends on your specific formula:
- If you use Natural Oils: If your recipe includes natural oils (such as Jojoba Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, or Rice Bran Oil), it is highly recommended to add Vitamin E (dl-alpha tocopherol) at approximately 0.1-0.5% to act as an antioxidant. This prevents the natural oils from becoming rancid (developing a bad smell) over time.
- If you use Synthetic Oils: If you use synthetic esters like the LipidSoft™ series, the risk of rancidity is much lower, and Vitamin E becomes optional, primarily serving as a skin-nourishing ingredient.
2. Is there a version that comes with Vitamin E?
Currently, there is no pre-mixed version of Oil Soap™ WW-CF that includes Vitamin E. The product is sold as a concentrated surfactant base to allow formulators the flexibility to choose their own oils and additives.
If you decide to add Vitamin E, you can choose based on your goal:
- For formula stability (preventing oil rancidity): Use Vitamin E (dl-alpha tocopherol).
- For skin nourishment: Use Vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate) or Natural Vitamin E (d-alpha tocopherol).
In an oil soap formula, you would typically mix the Vitamin E into the oil phase before combining it with the Oil Soap™ WW-CF.
