Usage Percentage of Double Hyaluron Liquid and Skin Dryness Concern
Question
I am using the Double Hyaluron Liquid product (5% Hyaluronic Acid blend: Nano and Standard). I accidentally added 4% of this liquid product to my formula.
I am concerned because I've heard that Sodium Hyaluronate can cause dryness at concentrations above 2%.
Is adding 4% of the Double Hyaluron Liquid product okay?
Answer
Double Hyaluron Liquid Usage
Based on your question and the information available, it appears you are using the Double Hyaluron Liquid product.
This product is a liquid form containing 5% concentration of Hyaluronic Acid (a blend of Nano and Standard molecules).
You mentioned accidentally adding 4% of this liquid product to your formula. As noted in the replies, if you added 4 grams of the 5% Double Hyaluron Liquid to a 100-gram formula, the final concentration of actual Hyaluronic Acid in your formula would be 0.2% (4% of 5%).
The concern about Sodium Hyaluronate causing a drying effect at concentrations above 2% typically refers to the concentration of the pure Hyaluronic Acid itself, and can sometimes occur with certain molecular weights or in very low humidity environments when used at high percentages.
However, using 4% of the Double Hyaluron Liquid product results in a very low final Hyaluronic Acid concentration (0.2%). This concentration is well below the level that would cause a drying effect and is within a safe and effective range for providing hydration.
The recommended usage rate for the Double Hyaluron Liquid product itself is:
- Very dry skin: 10-20%
- Dry skin: 5-10%
- Normal skin or general dehydrated skin: 3-5%
Your accidental usage of 4% of the liquid product falls within the recommended range for normal/dehydrated skin. Therefore, your formula with 4% Double Hyaluron Liquid (resulting in 0.2% actual Hyaluronic Acid) should be fine and provide moisturizing benefits without causing dryness.
