Using Aloe Vera Gel Lite as a Base in Whitening Serum to Prevent Pilling
Question
I am developing a whitening serum and experiencing pilling when using AnyGel as the gelling agent. I would like to use Aloe Vera Gel Lite as the base instead of water. My formula currently includes the following ingredients:
- GlucoBright 4%
- WhiteCumin 3%
- SafeB3 5%
- Trans-White 3%
- PE-1 Aqua 2%
- 1,2 - Hexanediol 3%
- 4MSK (Potassium Methoxysalicylate)
- AnyGel
- Water
Can I replace the water and AnyGel with Aloe Vera Gel Lite? If so, what should the revised formula be, and will this help solve the pilling issue? I understand that Aloe Vera Gel Lite is a base and should replace the entire water portion of the formula.
Answer
Subject: Regarding the use of Aloe Vera Gel Lite in your whitening formula
Hello,
Thank you for your question.
You can indeed use Aloe Vera Gel Lite as the base for your formula. As the staff mentioned, Aloe Vera Gel Lite is a base and should replace the water component in your recipe.
Based on the ingredients you listed, and following the staff's advice to remove 4MSK when using Aloe Vera Gel Lite (as it may destabilize the formula), the revised formula would be:
- GlucoBright 4%
- WhiteCumin 3%
- SafeB3 5%
- Trans-White 3%
- PE-1 Aqua 2%
- 1,2 - Hexanediol 3%
- Aloe Vera Gel Lite (Base) 80%
To calculate the percentage for Aloe Vera Gel Lite, we sum the percentages of the other ingredients (4 + 3 + 5 + 3 + 2 + 3 = 20%) and subtract this from 100% (100 - 20 = 80%).
Using Aloe Vera Gel Lite as the base at 80% should help resolve the pilling issue you experienced with Any Gel, which is a gelling agent rather than a base.
Please remember to remove 4MSK from the formula when using Aloe Vera Gel Lite.
We hope this helps!
