Question

I have questions about using Cream Makers and Oil Cream Maker:

  1. Can Oil Cream Maker be mixed with other cream makers like Rich Cream Maker, Luxury Cream Maker, or Light Cream Maker to increase the percentage of oil that can be incorporated into the formula?
  2. When using Oil Cream Maker with Triethanolamine for thickening, what is the correct mixing procedure? Specifically, when should pH-sensitive active ingredients be added, especially after adjusting the pH with an acid like Citric Acid?

Answer

Based on the staff's reply:

  1. Regarding combining Oil Cream Maker with other cream makers like Rich Cream Maker to increase oil load: The staff did not explicitly confirm this method. Instead, they suggested adding wax (such as Beeswax, Carnauba Wax, or Microcrystalline Wax) to the oil phase when using cream makers like Rich Cream Maker (or Luxury Cream Maker, Light Cream Maker) to achieve a heavier texture and help incorporate a higher oil percentage. They suggested starting with around 5% wax, heated and dissolved in the oil phase.

  2. Regarding the mixing procedure for Oil Cream Maker and Triethanolamine and the effect on pH-sensitive actives: Triethanolamine is used to thicken Oil Cream Maker. After thickening, the pH of the formula can be adjusted down using an acid like Citric Acid. If your formula contains pH-sensitive actives, it is recommended to add these actives after the pH has been adjusted to the desired range.
