Question

  1. Can this ingredient be added into a leave-in formula?

    • If it can be added, will the ingredient’s effectiveness decrease over time?
  2. Can this ingredient be added into Rinse off formulas, such as treatment, shampoo, or does it have to be added only to treatment or shampoo?

Answer

HeatPlex™ (Cystine Bis-PG-Propyl Silanetriol) can be used in both leave-in and rinse-off hair formulas.

1. Leave-in formulas

  • Yes, it can be added to leave-in products because HeatPlex™ is water-soluble and can be mixed directly into the water phase.
  • Recommended use range from our product data: 5-30%; for stronger hair-conditioning/bonding effect, the typical target is around 20-25%.
  • Best performance requires heat activation after application, such as blow drying or heat styling. With heat, it can form a film/complex with hair protein and remain on hair for many days.
  • If no heat is used, it can still adhere to hair, but the effect is much shorter, with effectiveness expected to last about within 1 day.
  • In the finished product itself, keep the formula within pH 3-9, store away from light/heat, and perform normal stability testing. Under proper storage, the raw material shelf life is listed as 12-24 months.

2. Rinse-off formulas: treatment, conditioner, shampoo

  • Yes, it can also be used in rinse-off products such as hair treatment, conditioner, and shampoo.
  • It is not limited only to treatment or only to shampoo. However, performance will generally be better in products with longer hair contact time, such as treatment/conditioner, than in shampoo.
  • For treatment/conditioner, 20-25% is the recommended level when the goal is a stronger coating/bonding effect.
  • For shampoo, it can be used, but because contact time is short and the product is rinsed off, the retained effect may be lower than in treatment/conditioner or leave-in formulas.
  • For best results in rinse-off use, allow enough contact time on hair, rinse as usual, then use heat drying/styling afterward to help activate HeatPlex™ on the hair.
