Vitamin C Ethyl Ether Ascorbic Acid Color and Salicylic Acid Formulation Without Stabilizer
Question
I recently received Vitamin C Ethyl Ether Ascorbic Acid powder which is a light brown color. The website description said it should be a white powder. Is the light brown color normal, and is the product still safe and effective to use in cosmetic formulations?
Additionally, I purchased Salicylic Acid for exfoliation but forgot to order a stabilizer (like Polysorbate 20) to prevent precipitation after mixing. If the Salicylic Acid precipitates, can I just shake the mixture before use, and will it be as effective as a formula that includes Polysorbate 20?

Color of Vitamin C Ethyl Ether Ascorbic Acid
Regarding the color of the Vitamin C Ethyl Ether Ascorbic Acid powder, we apologize for the incorrect information on our website. Ethyl Ascorbic Acid is naturally a light yellow powder, not white. The product you received with a light brown color is normal and still safe and effective to use in your cosmetic formulations.
Using Salicylic Acid Without Polysorbate 20
You asked about using Salicylic Acid without a stabilizer like Polysorbate 20 and if shaking the mixture when it settles would give the same results. The effectiveness will be very close, especially if your formulation base contains 20-40% Propylene Glycol. In this case, you can simply shake the mixture before each use. However, if your formulation is purely water-based, the effectiveness will be significantly reduced without a proper solubilizer or stabilizer.
