Water-Based Body Mist Formulation: Adding Farnesol & Ensuring Clarity

Question

I'm trying to make a water-based body mist for frequent daily use with the following formula:

  • Fragrance Oil: 3%
  • Flora Solve Clear: 8%
  • Mild Preserved Eco: 1%
  • Distilled Water: up to 100%

I would like to ask:

  • What types of fragrance fixatives can be added?
  • Can I use Farnesol (Water Soluble, 15%) in this formula?
  • If yes, what ingredient should I reduce to add it?
  • Will the resulting body mist be clear with this formula?

Answer

Water-Based Body Mist Formulation

You can definitely add Farnesol (Water Soluble, 15%) to your body mist formula. Farnesol (Water Soluble, 15%) is an effective odor control agent and is water-soluble, making it suitable for your water-based body mist formula.

Formula Adjustment and Method:
You can add Farnesol (Water Soluble, 15%) to your formula by reducing the amount of distilled water. We recommend using Farnesol (Water Soluble, 15%) at approximately 1-2% of the total formula. For example, if you use 1%, the formula would be:

  • Fragrance Oil: 3%
  • Flora Solve Clear: 8%
  • Mild Preserved Eco: 1%
  • Farnesol (Water Soluble, 15%): 1%
  • Distilled Water: 87% (to reach 100%)

Mixing Steps:

  1. Mix the Fragrance Oil and Flora Solve Clear together. Stir or blend well until fully combined.
  2. In a separate container, mix the Distilled Water, Mild Preserved Eco, and Farnesol (Water Soluble, 15%). Stir until they are well dissolved and combined.
  3. Slowly pour the Fragrance Oil/Flora Solve Clear mixture into the water phase while stirring continuously until the mixture is homogeneous and clear.

Clarity of the Body Mist:
Based on the ingredients you have chosen, Flora Solve Clear, Mild Preserved Eco, and Farnesol (Water Soluble, 15%) are all water-soluble and clear. When mixed correctly, especially using Flora Solve Clear at an appropriate amount (8% for 3% fragrance, which is within the recommended range), the resulting body mist should be clear. If you find it slightly cloudy, you might try slightly increasing the percentage of Flora Solve Clear.
