Question

Regarding the company's water-soluble colors:

If I want to use them to make a cream very dark, will the color stain the skin when applied? Will the color transfer?

Answer

Water-Soluble Colors in Cream and Skin Staining

Whether water-soluble colors will stain the skin when used in a cream, especially at high concentrations for a dark color, depends on the specific type of water-soluble color used.

  • EasyWash™ Colors: Our range includes water-soluble colors with the EasyWash™ designation, such as Black Color EasyWash™ and Caramel Color EasyWash™. These colors are specially formulated not to stick to the skin surface and are recommended for use in creams, lotions, gels, and serums. Even when used to achieve a deep color in the cream, they are designed to wash off easily from the skin and minimize staining.

  • HiStain™ Colors: We also offer HiStain™ water-soluble colors, like Black Color HiStain™ and Caramel Color HiStain™. These are designed for better adherence to the skin and are more suitable for makeup products where longer-lasting color is desired. Using these types in a cream at high concentrations could potentially leave color on the skin.

  • Standard Water-Soluble Colors: Some standard water-soluble color powders, such as Black Color Powder (Water-Soluble), are explicitly not recommended for creams or lotions because the color may stick to the surface. For creams, the EasyWash™ type is preferred.

Therefore, if you want to color your cream deeply without the color staining the skin when applied, it is highly recommended to choose the EasyWash™ type of water-soluble color.
