Question

I am looking for a formula for a waterproof, sweat-proof, transfer-proof sunscreen foundation. The staff provided the following recommended formula:

  • SPF Protect Ultra II: 5% (Sunscreen agent)
  • Silk Mica Powder: 10% (Foundation powder, helps coverage)
  • Cyclomethicone: 7% (Emollient, helps disperse sunscreen and foundation powders)
  • Titanium Dioxide 200nm EasyDisperse™: 3% (Sunscreen, whitens formula, increases coverage)
  • Silicone Film (Medium-Wear, Soft): 5% (Helps create a film for water/sweat resistance and long wear)
  • Water-in-Oil EZ: 3% (Emulsifier for oil/silicone/water)
  • Oil-Fix: 1% (Formula stabilizer)
  • Mild Preserved Eco: 1% (Preservative)
  • Water: Remaining part

For adjusting the color to match skin tone, Beige Iron Oxides EasyMix™ can be added (starting at 0.5%). For different skin tones (e.g., fair yellow), Yellow Iron Oxides EasyMix™, Red Iron Oxides EasyMix™, and Black Iron Oxides EasyMix™ can also be used to fine-tune the shade.

My questions are:

  1. Can Silk Mica Powder be replaced or mixed with Sericite?
  2. Can Silicone Film (Medium-Wear, Soft) be replaced with Silicone Film (Long-Wear, Hard)?

Answer

Here is a summary of the conversation regarding the waterproof, sweat-proof, transfer-proof sunscreen foundation formula:

The user requested a formula for a waterproof, sweat-proof, transfer-proof sunscreen foundation. The staff provided the following recommended formula:

  • SPF Protect Ultra II: 5% (Sunscreen agent)
  • Silk Mica Powder: 10% (Foundation powder, helps coverage)
  • Cyclomethicone: 7% (Emollient, helps disperse sunscreen and foundation powders)
  • Titanium Dioxide 200nm EasyDisperse™: 3% (Sunscreen, whitens formula, increases coverage)
  • Silicone Film (Medium-Wear, Soft): 5% (Helps create a film for water/sweat resistance and long wear)
  • Water-in-Oil EZ: 3% (Emulsifier for oil/silicone/water)
  • Oil-Fix: 1% (Formula stabilizer)
  • Mild Preserved Eco: 1% (Preservative)
  • Water: Remaining part

For adjusting the color to match skin tone, Beige Iron Oxides EasyMix™ can be added (starting at 0.5%). For different skin tones (e.g., fair yellow), Yellow Iron Oxides EasyMix™, Red Iron Oxides EasyMix™, and Black Iron Oxides EasyMix™ can also be used to fine-tune the shade.

The user then asked if Silk Mica Powder could be replaced or mixed with Sericite, and if Silicone Film (Medium-Wear, Soft) could be replaced with Silicone Film (Long-Wear, Hard).

The staff responded that Silk Mica Powder can be substituted or mixed with Sericite, but the total amount of foundation powders combined should not exceed 10% to avoid difficulties in emulsifying the formula. Regarding the Silicone Film, neither option is definitively "best". Silicone Film (Long-Wear, Hard) offers longer wear but may feel less comfortable on the skin due to its harder texture. The user is welcome to experiment, and the product pages provide details on the differences.
