Whitening Body Cream Formulation Guide

To create an effective whitening body cream, it is recommended to use ingredients with different mechanisms of action to synergistically reduce melanin production. Here are some interesting and research-backed ingredients:

• Phenylethyl Resorcinol: A highly effective tyrosinase inhibitor that helps reduce dark spots and dullness. Use at 0.1-1.0% (recommended 0.5%). Soluble in oil.
• Tranexamic Acid: Helps reduce pigmentation caused by sun exposure by inhibiting the Endothelin-1 pathway. Suitable for reducing melasma and dark spots. Use at a rate not exceeding 3%. Soluble in water.
• Hexylresorcinol AF: A water-soluble version of Hexylresorcinol with multiple mechanisms, including tyrosinase inhibition, reduced melanosome transfer, and gentle exfoliation. Use at 1-3%. Soluble in water.
• AEPWhite™: Helps brighten skin by stabilizing DOPAchrome, a step downstream of tyrosinase inhibition. It can be used with tyrosinase inhibitors for enhanced efficacy. Use at 0.1-1.0% (recommended 0.5%). Soluble in water.

Formulation Tips:

• Oil-soluble ingredients (like Phenylethyl Resorcinol) should be added to the oil phase, and water-soluble ingredients (like Tranexamic Acid, Hexylresorcinol AF, AEPWhite™) should be added to the water phase.
• Use an appropriate emulsifier for an O/W (Oil-in-Water) emulsion cream formula.
• Add stabilizers like Disodium EDTA and antioxidants like ActiveProtec OX to help prevent formula discoloration.
• Adjust the pH of the formula to the appropriate range for the chosen ingredients. Generally, pH 4.5-5.5 is suitable for many whitening ingredients.
• Avoid high heat during mixing, especially for heat-sensitive ingredients.
• Package the product in opaque containers to protect from light, which can degrade some ingredients.
