Used as a chiral ligand in asymmetric synthesis, particularly in catalytic reactions such as asymmetric hydrogenation and enantioselective C–C bond formation. Its rigid binaphthyl backbone provides excellent stereocontrol, making it valuable in the preparation of optically active pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals. Commonly employed in transition metal complexes with ruthenium, rhodium, or titanium to achieve high enantioselectivity. Also applied in chiral resolution and as a building block for chiral sensors and materials.
