avobenzone, or Butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane is an organic sunscreen or chemical sunscreen   that can protect against UVA in the frequency range from 320-390nm, which completely covers UVA I / UVA II

 

The use of Avobenzone in the formulation must not contain Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide and Octyl methoxycinnamate. Because it will cause Avobenzone to deteriorate quickly.

 

There are several ways to stabilize Avobenzone.

1. Technology AvoTriplex (Copyright: Banana Boat) Avobenzone is mixed with Oxybenzone and Octocrylene In approximately 1:1:2 ratio, for example Avobenzone 3%: Oxybenzone 3%: Octocrylene 6%

2. Technology Helioplex (Copyright: Neutrogena) Avobenzone is mixed with Oxybenzone At approximately 1:2 ratio, for example Avobenzone 3%: Oxybenzone 6%

 

Additional advice on using Avobenzone in any sunscreen formulation:

1. There should be Disodium EDTA 0.1% in water to help protect Avobenzone from metal ions.

2. Do not contain Alumina or sunscreen containing Alumina (such as some types of Titanium Dioxide).

3. Warm by heating 80-85 degrees to completely dissolve in oil. (Please select any solvent from the information below) for maximum efficiency.

Calculating PA or UVA Protection Performance

Avobenzone 3% or more = PA+++ (8 times more UVA protection)

Avobenzone 2% = PA++ (4 times more UVA protection)

Avobenzone 1% = PA+ (protects twice as much UVA)

Japan: no more than 10%
