Product Description:
Sodium bromide is widely used in the oil and gas industry as a component of high-density brine fluids for well completion and workover operations. These clear salt solutions are valued for their ability to control wellbore pressure and stabilize formations during drilling and maintenance, especially in deep or high-pressure wells.
It also serves as a source of bromide ions in the synthesis of other bromine-containing chemicals. In organic chemistry, it is employed as a reagent in bromination reactions, particularly when used with oxidizing agents to generate bromine in situ.
In some cases, sodium bromide has been used in veterinary medicine as an anticonvulsant, though this application is limited and largely historical. It has also found use in photography and in the manufacture of certain types of dyes and disinfectants.
Additionally, sodium bromide is used in laboratories as a standard reference material in analytical chemistry, particularly in mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) calibration.
