Product Description:
Widely used in microbiology and molecular biology as a chromogenic substrate for detecting enzyme activity, particularly β-galactosidase in the presence of appropriate enzyme systems. When cleaved by the target enzyme, it releases an insoluble blue-colored precipitate, enabling visual identification of positive reactions in colony screening, such as in blue-white selection during recombinant cloning. Its lipophilic octanoate tail enhances cell membrane permeability, allowing intracellular detection of enzyme expression in live cells. Commonly applied in histochemistry and agar-based assays for clear, localized staining with low background interference.
