Product Description:
Used as an antidepressant in the treatment of major depressive disorder, nomifensine maleate functions as a norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor, helping to increase the levels of these neurotransmitters in the brain to improve mood and motivation. It was previously marketed under the brand name Merital but was withdrawn from the market in the 1980s due to safety concerns related to immune-mediated hemolytic anemia and other serious adverse effects. Despite its withdrawal, it has been studied for its stimulant and mood-enhancing properties, and it remains of interest in pharmacological research for understanding dopamine and norepinephrine transport mechanisms.
