Make-Up Soft Fix (AMP-Acrylates/Allyl Methacrylate Copolymer) is a pre-neutralized AMP-salt anionic film former supplied as a low-viscosity translucent liquid, typically around 26% polymer solids.
It is designed for clear water or hydroalcoholic setting systems where humidity-resistant fixation, low flaking, and good touchability are required. The film is clear and levelled, so formulators can maintain transparent aesthetics while improving wear.
In practice, this polymer is a flexible performance lever: by balancing polymer solids, alcohol level, humectant, and optional co-formers, the final finish can be tuned from softer natural fixation to stronger long-wear grip without heavy buildup.
Product Description: As a film former in makeup setting spray, it helps bind powder/pigment at the skin surface, improve transfer resistance, and support longer wear under humid conditions. The same clear-film behavior can also reduce particle adhesion from daily pollution exposure and improve rinse-off removal versus no-film systems. For hair setting sprays, the resin supports curl snap and curl memory with 24-hour humidity-resistant hold, while still allowing easy shampoo removal. The low viscosity and long-flow profile support good spray atomization and leveling, helping reduce patchy deposition and tack hotspots. Because the system is anionic, formula design must control compatibility boundaries: cationic conditioners/polyquats, quats, high electrolyte loads, or cationically treated dispersions can cause haze, stringiness, or precipitate. For aerosol or very high-alcohol formats, treat this as a development project and verify clarity, valve/actuator behavior, and anti-clog performance by stability testing.
Quality control profile (COA): pH 5.8 - 6.3, solids 25.0 - 28.0%, transmission (5% solution, 420 nm) 85 - 100%, total aerobic plate count <= 100 CFU/g, pathogens not isolated in 10 g, with residual limits for isopropanol (<= 0.5%), n-butanol (<= 0.3%), solvents (<= 0.1%), butyl acrylate (<= 100 ppm), methacrylic acid (<= 400 ppm), and acrylic acid (<= 300 ppm).
Usage: Makeup setting spray, face mist for wear extension, hair setting spray, clear styling mists, and other low-to-medium viscosity water/alcohol fixation systems.
Mixing method:
- Pre-disperse/add in the aqueous phase with gentle stirring until uniform.
- If using alcohol, add alcohol slowly (or in portions) to maintain clarity and avoid shock precipitation.
- Keep final pH in the practical window around 5.8-6.3 to protect clarity and film consistency.
- Keep viscosity close to water-like for fine-mist pumps; avoid spray-hostile thickeners that increase stringiness.
- Prefer nonionic solubilizers/slip aids when needed, and run jar tests when adding pigments, fragrance systems, salts, or conditioning agents.
Usage rate: 1.9-11.5% as supplied (about 0.5-3.0% polymer solids). Typical design starting points: ~3-6% as supplied for flexible natural hold and ~6-10% as supplied for stronger grip/long wear, then optimize for tack, pilling, and drydown speed in the final package.
Product characteristics: Translucent-to-clear low-viscosity liquid, pre-neutralized anionic polymer solution.
Solubility: Readily dispersible in water and compatible with hydroalcoholic systems; clarity is formulation-dependent and should be confirmed when cationics or high ionic loads are present.
Storage: Keep container tightly closed, protect from heat/light, mix before use, and do not freeze.
