Used in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, particularly for maintaining normal sinus rhythm in patients with atrial fibrillation. It is also prescribed for certain ventricular arrhythmias when other treatments are not effective. Due to its narrow therapeutic index, regular monitoring of thyroid and liver function is required during long-term use.
