Product Description:
Blasticidin S hydrochloride solution is widely used as a selection agent in molecular and cell biology for the isolation of genetically modified cells. It is particularly effective in selection systems where cells have been transfected or transduced with a blasticidin resistance gene (such as bsr or BSD). This antibiotic inhibits protein synthesis by interfering with the peptidyl transferase activity of the ribosome, leading to cell death in susceptible cells.
It is commonly applied in both mammalian and bacterial cell cultures to maintain selective pressure, ensuring that only cells expressing the resistance gene survive. Its use is prominent in stable cell line development, gene expression studies, and CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing workflows. Due to its rapid action and high efficacy, blasticidin S hydrochloride is preferred when quick selection is required. The solution form allows for easy handling and direct use in culture media without the need for additional solubilization steps.
