description Product Description
Alpidem was used as an anxiolytic agent, primarily for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder. It acted selectively on central benzodiazepine receptors, particularly the omega-1 subtype, which contributed to its anti-anxiety effects with minimal sedation, muscle relaxation, or anticonvulsant activity typically seen with classical benzodiazepines. Due to its selective mechanism, it had a lower potential for dependence and cognitive impairment compared to traditional anxiolytics. Alpidem was administered orally and showed rapid absorption and efficacy in reducing anxiety symptoms within a short time of treatment initiation. However, its clinical use was discontinued in several countries due to rare but severe hepatotoxicity associated with long-term use.
