Also utilized in the production of certain batteries (e.g., nickel-cadmium) and electronic components. Thermal decomposition produces cadmium oxide, which is applied in electroplating, catalysts, and phosphors. Due to its high toxicity and environmental hazards, usage is strictly regulated and declining in many applications under safety standards like REACH and RoHS.
