description Product Description

Rimonabant (also known as SR141716A) is a synthetic cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1) inverse agonist. It was developed as an appetite suppressant for obesity management by selectively blocking CB1 receptors in the central nervous system, thereby reducing hunger, cravings, and food intake. Clinical studies demonstrated its efficacy in promoting weight loss and aiding smoking cessation by diminishing nicotine reward. It also showed promise in treating alcohol dependence. However, due to severe psychiatric side effects including depression, anxiety, and suicidality, Rimonabant was withdrawn from the market in the EU in 2008 and never approved elsewhere. It is now supplied as a high-purity research chemical (≥98.5%) for laboratory use only, not for human or veterinary consumption.
