Used as an intermediate in organic semiconductor materials, particularly in the development of hole-transport materials for OLEDs (organic light-emitting diodes). Its brominated carbazole structure allows for further functionalization through cross-coupling reactions, enabling the synthesis of high-performance compounds for optoelectronic devices. Also employed in the preparation of host materials in phosphorescent OLEDs due to its good thermal stability and triplet energy properties. Shows promise in perovskite solar cells as a dopant-free hole-transport layer, improving device efficiency and stability.
